How to give gabapentin to dogs
Gabapentin is usually given by mouth as a capsule, tablet, or compounded liquid. Capsules may sometimes be opened and mixed into a small amount of wet food if your veterinarian says that is appropriate. Use a small portion of food so you can confirm the full dose was eaten.
Keep dosing times consistent. Many labels use every 8-12 hours, but the correct interval is the one written by your veterinarian. If you miss a dose and it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose rather than doubling up.
Avoid giving gabapentin at the same time as aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids unless your veterinarian has planned the spacing. Store capsules and tablets at room temperature away from moisture; compounded liquids may have different storage instructions.
